My intentions were to post a Thanksgiving blog to help prepare for the big Turkey day that's just around the corner.  Don't panic!  What some people don't quite understand is that often this Holiday does not just consist of one day and one meal.  It could include days and multiple feast depending on your family plans.  Are your parents coming for a week?  Are all thirteen of the grandchildren attending?  Is your aunt lazy?  So with that line of thinking I decided that this blog would gravitate toward the other meals.  So take a look..

Edible Salad Tossers and a Bowl

I thought I had seen it all.  But take a look at this.

Here is the bad news.  The instructions are in French.  I have included the the link to this ever so clever baker. So all of you well-rounded individuals who speak other languages, GO for it.  That would not be me.  IF THIS DOESN'T STRIKE UP A CONVERSATION,  NOTHING WILL!  IF THIS DOESN'T IMPRESS YOUR MOTHER IN LAW.   NOTHING WILL!

This recipe isn't exactly a Thanksgiving themed dish, however I thought it would be a good choice for a non-traditional option . If you have family and/or guest for several days this might be a easy and delicious choice for one of the other meals.

Bacon Cheeseburger Meatloaf
Ingredients:
1 pound ground chuck
10 slices bacon, cooked and crumbled
1 (8-ounce) package sharp Cheddar, grated
1 egg, lightly beaten
1/4 cup bread crumbs, toasted
1/4 cup mayonnaise
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
1/3 cup ketchup
2 tablespoons prepared mustard
1 (3-ounce) can French fried onions

Directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
In a large bowl, combine the ground chuck and next 8 ingredients, mixing well.
In a small bowl, combine the ketchup and mustard. Stir 1/4 cup ketchup mixture into meat mixture, reserving remaining ketchup mixture.
Press meat mixture into a 9x5x3-inch loaf pan, or shape into a loaf and place on a rack in a broiler pan. Spread remaining ketchup mixture over loaf. Bake 40 minutes. Top with French fried onions; bake 10 to 15 minutes, or until meat is no longer pink.

CAJUN CORN MAQUE CHOUX
"I love this stuff"

Ingredients
1 small onion, chopped
1/4 cup chopped green bell pepper
1 to 2 tablespoons olive oil
3 cups frozen shoepeg corn, thawed
2 plum tomatoes, diced
1/4 pound andouille sausage, cooked and diced
1/4 cup chopped green onion tops
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper

Preparation
Sauté onion and bell pepper in hot oil in a large skillet over medium heat 8 minutes or until tender. Add corn, tomato, and sausage; cook, stirring often, 15 minutes. Stir in green onions, salt, and pepper; cook 5 minutes.

This is truly delicious.  This is a repeat from a previous blog but we like it so much I decided to share it again.  I have made it several times and have had several of my blog followers try it out.  Thumbs Up!  It doesn't have to be the sourdough loaf.   I actually used a jalapeno loaf that I found at the Fresh Market.  It worked perfect.  So easy!.

You may want to double this recipe. It went fast!

Insanely Amazing Jalapeno Cheese Dip
Take this delicious, 5-minute prep, jalapeno cheese dip to BBQs, cookouts, parties, or any other occasion. This dish will make you the most popular person there! Serve with bread, crackers, or chips.
1 (4 ounce) can diced jalapeno peppers
1 cup shredded Parmesan cheese
1/2 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
1 cup mayonnaise
1 (4 ounce) can chopped green chilies
1 round loaf sourdough bread

DIRECTIONS

Preheat an oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).

Combine jalapeno peppers, Parmesan cheese, Cheddar cheese, mayonnaise, and green chilies in a bowl. Cut the top off of the sourdough bread and hollow out the center to create a bowl. Fill the bread bowl with the jalapeno mixture.
Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes.

And a drum roll please............

Your going to have to get creative with this one.
But we can do it! And we can keep it simple.

It appears to be a regular sized cupcake and small muffin size for the face.
If you have your own cupcake recipe go for it, if not I would just use a store bought cake mix and icing. Obviously you would want to use chocolate for the icing.
The chocolate sprinkles are available at most groceries, Target and even Michaels.
Now for the creative part.  The sky is the limit.  The paper products can be found at Michaels and many other party and paper stores.  I think you could just use a regular cupcake liner.  The cupcake wrap may be hard to find this late in the game.  You can order them all day long on line but it's getting a little late.  I would probably just eliminate the Save the Turkey inserts or substitute them with a name on your guest list. But that's just me.  I happen to love Turkey.  Are you wondering what those eyes are made of?  Baby marshmellows.  Easy enough!  How about a candy corn for the nose?  Get creative!

I know you have left over Pumpkins.  Use them!  If your on a budget then downsize on the flowers.  This is a lot of flowers.  Add your own greeenery from your yard.

WOW FACTOR!

Godiva Chewy Turtle Tarts

Ok, I know this recipe looks a bit time consuming but if you have ever had any sort of dessert with Godiva Chocolate you know that it is well worth the time.  There are easier recipes so I have provided you this link for you to see for yourself.

Yield: 6 servings
Difficulty: **Intermediate
Preparation: 2 hours and 15 minutes plus cooking, baking and cooling times
Special Equipment: Six 3 1/2-inch nonstick tartlet pans; 3 3/4-inch round cutter
11 tablespoons unsalted butter 1/2 cup plus 2 tablespoons confectioners' sugar
1 1/2 tablespoons ground pecans (ground in food processor)
1 large egg
1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour

Caramel Filling:
2 tablespoons unsalted butter, divided
1 tablespoon granulated sugar
1/3 cup firmly packed light brown sugar
1 1/2 tablespoons honey
1 tablespoon maple syrup
1/4 cup heavy cream
Chocolate Ganache:
2 bars (1.5 ounces each) Godiva Dark Chocolate, finely chopped
6 tablespoons heavy cream
2 tablespoons unsalted butter, cubed, at room temperature
Candied Pecans:
2 tablespoons light corn syrup
1 cup pecans
Make tart shells:
Preheat oven to 350°F. Cream butter and sugar in bowl until light, using electric mixer at high speed. Beat in ground pecans, then egg, scraping down sides of bowl as necessary. Add flour at low speed, mixing just until combined. On lightly floured surface, roll out dough to 1/8-inch thick. Using 3 3/4-inch round cutter, cut out 6 circles from dough. Place one dough circle in each tart pan and gently press dough onto bottom and up sides of pan. Using paring knife, trim off excess dough. Cover with round of wax or parchment paper and fill with rice or beans to weigh down dough while baking. Arrange tart pans on baking sheet and bake 15 to 20 minutes or until golden brown. Remove shells from pans and cool completely.
Make caramel filling:
Place 1 tablespoon butter and granulated sugar in heavy-bottomed saucepan and place over medium-high heat. Cook, stirring occasionally, until mixture is light brown and fragrant. Add remaining ingredients (including remaining butter) and mix well. Bring to boil and cook 3 to 5 minutes. Remove from heat and immediately divide mixture among tart shells. Let cool completely.
Make chocolate ganache:
Place chocolate in medium bowl. Pour heavy cream into heavy-bottomed saucepan and bring to boil over medium-high heat. Pour cream over chocolate and mix until smooth. Stir in butter until smooth. Let cool for about 5 minutes.Pour ganache over caramel filling in each tart shell, dividing it evenly.
Make candied pecans:
Preheat oven to 325°F. Line baking sheet with parchment paper. Place corn syrup in small microwavable container and microwave on HIGH (100% power) for 30 to 45 seconds or until very warm. Place pecans in small bowl. Pour warm corn syrup over pecans and toss until fully coated. Arrange pecans on prepared baking sheet and bake for 15 minutes. Cool and set aside until ready to use.
Garnish edge of each tart with candied pecans. Serve at room temperature or refrigerate. Bring to room temperature before serving.

Christmas Blog #4

Okay my friends here is Holiday Blog #4.
Letting you know that I am going to be missing in action for a little while. I know you have probably been wondering why on Earth I started blogging and decorating so soon  for Christmas.
I do not ever decorate until the week-end after Thanksgiving but as luck has it I will be undergoing surgery on Thursday Morning.  Nothing serious!  Will be having my appendix, ovaries and some possible scar tissue removed.  Just getting old folks  What you gonna do?
Now, knowing myself like I do, I suspect I'll be blogging just as soon as I return home from the hospital only I'm guesssing it's probably not going to make much sense if you know what I mean .  So bear with me.  I'd rather blog with typos and politcally incorrect nonsense than not blog at all.   Please feel free to send me any neat ideas or interesting recipes you may run across.  I'll add them to my blog while I am recouping. There is an area at the end of each blog to make comments.  Just follow the decorations.   You peeps have a really good week and we will hook back up in a few days.  Remember "THE TO DO LIST" Don't let me down.  "GET ER DONE"

TIPS:  Rumor has it HOBBY LOBBY is over flowing with Holiday merchandise and Michael's has some great coupons on the loose.  Take advantage.

HOLIDAY RECIPE FOR THE DAY:

If you love peanut butter and jelly you will love these. I made a batch of them for an impromptu Football party to watch our Saints yesterday.  WOW!  We are some proud folks around here.  Anyway.  here you go.  My taste testers who like P and J gave them a big thumbs up but let me just tell you those same taste testers had just about emptied out an ice chest. AND NO THEY WERE  NOT DRINKING MILK.

P and  J CUPCAKES   (SERIOUSLY?)

Peanut Butter and Jelly Cupcakes
1½ cups all-purpose flour
1½ teaspoons baking powder
¼ teaspoon salt
½ cup creamy peanut butter
1 stick unsalted butter, room temperature
1 cup brown sugar, packed
2 eggs
½ teaspoon vanilla
1 cup whole milk
Grape jelly

Peanut Butter Frosting:
1 cup powdered sugar
½ cup creamy peanut butter
½ stick unsalted butter, room temperature
4 tablespoons whipping cream
1 white chocolate bar, shaved into curls using a vegetable peeler

Cupcakes:
Preheat oven to 350º. Line muffin tin with 18 paper or foil muffin cups. Whisk together flour, baking powder and salt in medium bowl. In a different bowl, beat together peanut butter, butter and brown sugar with an electric mixer at medium speed until blended, about 3 minutes. Add eggs one at a time and beat until fluffy, about 2 minutes. Reduce speed to low and alternately add the flour mixture and milk, half at a time, mixing well after each addition.

Fill each of the lined muffin cups about two-thirds full and bake for 20 minutes, or until a tester inserted into the middle of a cupcake comes out clean. Turn cupcakes out on to rack and cool. Cut a 1½-inch-wide by 1-inch-deep hole in the center of each cupcake, reserving cutouts. Spoon grape jelly into each cupcake. Remove the bottom half of the cutouts and insert the tops back into the cupcakes.
Frosting:
Beat sugar, peanut butter and butter in medium bowl until smooth. Add whipping cream 1 tablespoon at a time and beat until incorporated. Spread frosting on cupcakes and sprinkle with white chocolate shavings.
Makes 18

This is what it looks like after you put the jelly inside.

HOLIDAY DECORATING IDEA FOR THE DAY:

I decided to show you a little work in progress in my formal living room.  I really enjoy the cuteness of Christmas but I find myself wanting something "Christmas Pretty" as I call it.  Our home includes a formal living room that I decorated in all cream colors.  Of course no one ever goes in there but never the less it is there.
What a perfect palette for my "Pretty Mood".  I'm just getting started but take a look anyway.  Trying to find the perfect ribbon to polish it off.

As I'm sure you will notice there are no little lights on my mantel.  Why?
What the heck happens to Christmas lights once you put them in storage?  I mean they just sit there for one year doing nothing and then they just stop working.  I really think the manufacturers put some kind of timer inside of them.  The first string I took out and plugged in were dead.  Not off to a very good start.  My favorite little pearl lights bit the dust. On a mad search to replace them. So if anyone runs into some thing of the sorts let me know.

That's a pretty good deal.

In 1954, in the cookhouse of a logging and sawmill settlement in northern New Hampshire, an anxious twelve-year-old boy mistakes the local constable’s girlfriend for a bear. Both the twelve-year-old and his father become fugitives, forced to run from Coos County–to Boston, to southern Vermont, to Toronto–pursued by the implacable constable. Their lone protector is a fiercely libertarian logger, once a river driver, who befriends them.
